Step 1 — Check your growth level

Compare your plate to the Mold Growth Examples in your printed instruction booklet to estimate growth.

No Growth

No spots or discoloration on the agar

Light Growth

1–5 small spots, <½ inch each

Moderate Growth

5–10 spots, 10–25% of dish

Heavy Growth

Dense growth, >25% coverage

Photo tips for the best review

  • Wait at least 3 days after starting your test so mold has time to grow
  • Keep the petri dish closed and place it on a flat surface
  • Take the photo straight down from above the dish
  • Turn off the camera flash to avoid glare on the lid
  • Include your Mold Record Chart in the photo
  • Send one photo per dish, matching each to the correct Dish #
